Eat More Nuts!
Do you know what month this is?
If you said February, you're right.
But do you know what happens in the month of
February?
If you said Valentine's day and Black History Month,
good for you, but what else?
Can't think of it? It's Heart Health Month!
And with Feb. being heart health month are you sure
of what you should and shouldn't do to prevent heart disease?
Well, you can stop doing the following things to lower your chances,
things like...
a) eating carb-rich (white carbs especially) foods on a daily basis.
b) sitting for long periods-watching T.V. or while at work.
Get up and move a few minutes each day. Go for a walk or
walk up and down the stairs at work.
c) Holding On To Grudges- angry at a relative or a co-worker.
If it's not too serious (like child abuse) try and forgive them.
Your heart will thank you.
d) Smoking- If you're still smoking, Quit. enough said.
Are you reading this Miley, Robin Thicke and Rhianna?
e) Cut down on or give up Sugar. Like white carbs, sugar can cause
serious damage to the arteries leading to and surrounding the heart.
Eat fruit or look for alternatives like coconut Palm sugar.
Now, that you know what you shouldn't do, here's something you
should do to keep your heart strong.
What is it?
Go nuts, as in eat more nuts.
Especially the kind being pushed by Comedy Central's
Steven Colbert.
That's right- the pistachio is a high-fat, tasty powerhouse and when it
comes to protecting your heart, it's in a class by itself.
Why is it so beneficial?
It contains compounds that literally absorb the bad cholesterol
and increases the levels of good cholesterol.
And the less bad cholesterol in your system, the healthier your heart
will be.
And if lowering risks of a heart attack isn't enough, pistachios
can also help you mellow out and lower your risk of lung cancer.
So, if heart disease runs in your family or if you just want to
prevent a heart attack, remember to go nuts. Pistachio nuts.
Also important:
Pistachios are a high-fat food, so a few nuts are all you need
each day. And be prepared to spend, unlike peanuts and almonds,
pistachios will cost you.
Good Luck!
