Singer's Food Rx To Slow Down Aging!

A Moroccan Dish To Slow Down Aging!

If you're really into pop culture, more specifically Mariah Carey news--
then you know her twins are named Monroe and Moroccan, and
if you love good food, especially Moroccan food, then you'll love this dish.

The dish:
Moroccan Beef and Sweet Potato Stew!
And what's so special about this dish?
It'll help you turn back the clock ( on aging) and reduce your odds of getting

heart disease, some cancers and diabetes.
That's right, a beef dish that'll help live longer and look younger?\
Yes, beef can be a dirty word in health-conscious California,
but it's simply not true.
The beef, spices and herbs in this dish cut down on AGEs in your system,
and what are AGEs?

AGEs form when excess sugars bind to --and damage--proteins in your system
and keeping AGEs at minimal levels helps keep skin firm and smooth, while also
lowering your odds of getting serious illnesses and diseases.

So, are you hungry? Ready to look and feel younger?
Okay then, here's the recipe....
Moroccan Beef and Sweet Potato Stew!

Ingredients:
3 Tbs. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. cayenne
1/2 cup raisins
3 lbs. beef stew meat, cut into 1' to 1 1/2" pieces
3 sweet potatoes peeled and cut into 1" cubes
1 can of tomatoes, diced, about 15 or 16 oz.
Couscous or rice, cooked about 2 cups, placed on a platter
toasted almonds and chopped parsley, 2 to 3 Tbs.

salt- 1/2 tsp.
-------------------------------------------------
Directions:
Combine the first 3 ingredients and place into a slow cooker-
a 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 Qt,  add the raisins, beef, and sweet potatoes,
stir to coat evenly,. Throw in the tomatoes, cover and let the slow cooker go
for 8 to 9 hrs. After the 8 or 9 hrs. are up, check to make sure the potatoes
and beef are fork tender, add extra salt if necessary
allow the food to sit for 10 to 15 minutes and then ladle the beef, potatoes and

tomatoes over the Hot cooked rice or couscous.
And if you want this dish to look decorative, add the almond slivers and

chopped parsley.
That's it's and if you're wondering- can this dish be made in a regular
soup or stock pot, it can, but cooking beef at low temperatures help

lower the AGEs.
Also helpful: eat more spices, herbs, All-Bran and Fiber One (cereal alternatives
for those that don't eat meat) and fruits
with the peels. Why?
They too, like beef can decrease the number of AGEs in your system.

And one last tip: You can stir-fry foods as that only requires 1 to 5 minutes
of fast cooking, certainly not a lot of time for AGEs to develop.

That's it- another great dish for those who want to look and feel younger,
without having to spend the money (like stars) to do so.

Good Luck!

Cooking Star's Rx To Satisfy Salty Cravings!

                          Taming Salty Cravings!

Ah Cravings...some people have carb cravings, some have sweet cravings and
then there are those who love potato chips, nuts and pretzels, in other words--
salty cravings.

Well, if you can't go a day without potato chips or nuts, you're not alone,
food network star--Giada De Laurentiis feels your pain- as she too
also shares the same cravings for salty foods.
And unlike a lot of stars who also cook, Ms. Delaurentiis seems to have
controlled and managed her cravings and (weight) for all of these years.
So, what does she do if a salty cravings strikes?
She goes for legumes, in other words beans (or peas) but more specifically--
Chickpeas.

Yes, chickpeas- the legumes you use to make great tasting hummus, are
the same food Ms. Delaurentiis uses to shut down salty cravings.

Why chick peas?
The beans pack a 6 grams of metabolism-revving protein and 4 grams of filling
fiber per ping pong ball-size handful.

That's it- and if you want to follow in the steps of the Food Network

star-then look for crispy chickpeas called Saffron Road Crunch Chickpeas-
which can be found at supermarkets or online at Amazon.com. Price --$4 for 6 oz.
Or save your money and buy canned chickpeas, rinse them a few times,
dry them off, place them on a cookie sheet, sprinkle some olive
or coconut oil over them and bake for 30 mins. at 350 degrees.
You can add some spices- curry or turmeric powder, cayenne pepper
or grated cheese before or after baking them.

T.V. Chef's Rx For The Juiciest Turkey Ever!

                             Recipe For The Perfect Turkey!

If you're a fan of the Food network, then you're well aware that we (the viewing
public) will be hit with an onslaught of Thanksgiving day recipes and tips
in the next 2 wks.
And if you enjoy these types of shows, then by all means, continue to watch.
But, if you're not a fan or just don't have the time, that's okay as well.

And if you plan on making turkey, and want a recipe for the "juiciest turkey"
ever, copy this recipe from none other than Food network star, Ree Drummond.

AKA the "Pioneer Woman" says that brining your turkey first, is the key to a
turkey that's succulent and brimming with flavor.

What is brining, you ask?
Soaking or saturating the turkey (meat) in a salty solution for a day or two before cooking it.
And the Pioneer woman's best brine for your turkey is...
Ingredients:
3 cups of apple juice or cider (not vinegar)
2 gallons of cold water
2 cups of brown sugar
1 1/2 cup kosher salt
1/4 cups fresh rosemary leaves
3 Tbs. peppercorns
6 cloves of garlic
5 whole bay leaves
the peel of 3 or 4 large oranges and get as pith (the white part)
as you can.
Directions:
Place all of the ingredients in a large pot, turn on the heat and simmer just
until the sugar and salt dissolve. Turn off the heat, and let it cool completely.

Next,   look for a pan, tub, pail, whatever--something that can
accommodate a 10, 15, or 20 pound turkey.  Place the turkey into the pot, pan, tub,
plastic bag, whatever, and then the brine, cover and leave in the refrigerator
or if you're lucky enough to live in Alaska, Minnesota or Buffalo N.Y. (colder
environments)
place the bird and brine on an outdoor porch or tool shed for a day or two.
(make sure no wildlife can get to it, cats, dogs, wolves, bears, or Raccoons).
And in a day or two, discard the brine, pat dry the turkey,
add some melted butter or oil, spices and herbs to it and then cook it.
Another great tip: place the turkey on the lowest rack, why?
Heat rises and if it (the turkey)  is at top of the oven it'll cook too fast.
Another great tip: From Wolfgang Puck and Rita Wilson, (Mrs. Tom Hanks)
place the turkey breast-side down. Why? All of the juices flow to the bottom,
which will make the breasts (white meat) much more juicier.

That's it- a recipe for the "juiciest turkey ever" courtesy of the Pioneer Woman!
And if you want more great tips from some of your favorite chefs, head on over

to Amazon.com/the kindle store and type, see title to the right
in the search bar and download it.
Learn how chefs-Carla Hall, Michael Symon, Giada DeLaurentiis, Bobby Flay and Rachael Ray may some of your

Turkey day favorites.

Penelope Cruz's Rx To Avoid Diabetes!

                  Sleep Well To Prevent Diabetes!

We're sure you've heard about Paula Deen's recent admission...
She has diabetes. There were hints of Ms. Deen being a diabetic
weeks ago. Most people will assume it was the deep-fried
dishes, the butter, the sugar and all of the baked goods.
It probably was all of the above, but another thing Ms.
Deen hid from her fans- The fact that she's been smoking
for over 40 yrs. Another bad habit that contributes to diabetes.
But, enough about Paula Deen.

If you want to avoid this debilatating and dreadful disease.
Do the one thing recent research says can reverse prediabetes
in a matter of days.
That one thing: Sleep More!

That's right- Sleep more-and according to Hollywood insiders-
Penelope Cruz sleeps 8 to 9 hrs. a night, everynight.
Why Sleep?
It helps your body correct major blood-sugar issues,
including insulin resistance.
And now- here are some tips for helping those who have trouble
getting to sleep and stay asleep.

1) Grab some Fruit-
Eat a banana or bowl of berries before bed. Why fruit?
Fruit contains fructose- (the sugar in fruit) increases serotonin-
and that increase in serotonin relaxes you and helps you reach
the deeper sleep stage.
2) A Massage-
From someone close to you or a do-it-yourself massage, will help you
drift off quicker and help you stay asleep. Massage your scalp, hands
and if flexibility isn't a problem, massage your feet.
The scalp, back, hands and feet are loaded with pressure-sensitive nerves
that are calming and will help you reach a deeper level of sleep,
3) Say Not To-
Sugar! Eating a few brownies or chocolate chip cookies an hour before
bed, not only harms your waistline, but causes disruptions to deep
sleep. Eat a brownie or piece of cheesecake by noon.
4) Drink Less-
Getting up a few times a night only increases your chances of developing
diabetes. So drink your fluids earlier in the day. Or try this tip to avoid
frequent bathroom breaks-the tip: Buy some cherry concentrate and
mix 1 tbs. with a glass of water. This is rumored to stop the frequent
bathroom breaks.
5) Take a Bath-
A warm bath offers a host of benefits- one of those benefits being
deeper, restful sleep. To make your bath even more relaxing-
Add a few drops of lavender, chamomile or jasmine oil to the water.
6) Exercise-
Oh no, the E word again, but exercising earlier in the day, helps you
sleep better at night. Do gentle exercise like Tai Chi, or dance to
a DVD or walk for 30 mins. a few times a week. And no exercising
to close to bedtime (doing so only keeps you awake).
That's it- Sleeping like Penelope Cruz will help you avoid diabetes,
and for more good news: Even if you have diabetes, more sleep can help
you improve your blood sugar levels. Please pass this good news on to Ms. Deen!

Good Luck!
