Sleep Well To Prevent Diabetes!
We're sure you've heard about Paula Deen's recent admission...
She has diabetes. There were hints of Ms. Deen being a diabetic
weeks ago. Most people will assume it was the deep-fried
dishes, the butter, the sugar and all of the baked goods.
It probably was all of the above, but another thing Ms.
Deen hid from her fans- The fact that she's been smoking
for over 40 yrs. Another bad habit that contributes to diabetes.
But, enough about Paula Deen.
If you want to avoid this debilatating and dreadful disease.
Do the one thing recent research says can reverse prediabetes
in a matter of days.
That one thing: Sleep More!
That's right- Sleep more-and according to Hollywood insiders-
Penelope Cruz sleeps 8 to 9 hrs. a night, everynight.
Why Sleep?
It helps your body correct major blood-sugar issues,
including insulin resistance.
And now- here are some tips for helping those who have trouble
getting to sleep and stay asleep.
1) Grab some Fruit-
Eat a banana or bowl of berries before bed. Why fruit?
Fruit contains fructose- (the sugar in fruit) increases serotonin-
and that increase in serotonin relaxes you and helps you reach
the deeper sleep stage.
2) A Massage-
From someone close to you or a do-it-yourself massage, will help you
drift off quicker and help you stay asleep. Massage your scalp, hands
and if flexibility isn't a problem, massage your feet.
The scalp, back, hands and feet are loaded with pressure-sensitive nerves
that are calming and will help you reach a deeper level of sleep,
3) Say Not To-
Sugar! Eating a few brownies or chocolate chip cookies an hour before
bed, not only harms your waistline, but causes disruptions to deep
sleep. Eat a brownie or piece of cheesecake by noon.
4) Drink Less-
Getting up a few times a night only increases your chances of developing
diabetes. So drink your fluids earlier in the day. Or try this tip to avoid
frequent bathroom breaks-the tip: Buy some cherry concentrate and
mix 1 tbs. with a glass of water. This is rumored to stop the frequent
bathroom breaks.
5) Take a Bath-
A warm bath offers a host of benefits- one of those benefits being
deeper, restful sleep. To make your bath even more relaxing-
Add a few drops of lavender, chamomile or jasmine oil to the water.
6) Exercise-
Oh no, the E word again, but exercising earlier in the day, helps you
sleep better at night. Do gentle exercise like Tai Chi, or dance to
a DVD or walk for 30 mins. a few times a week. And no exercising
to close to bedtime (doing so only keeps you awake).
That's it- Sleeping like Penelope Cruz will help you avoid diabetes,
and for more good news: Even if you have diabetes, more sleep can help
you improve your blood sugar levels. Please pass this good news on to Ms. Deen!
Good Luck!
