Nickelodeon's Rx For A Longer Life!

                   Live Long and Prosper!

Want to live to a ripe old age?
Well, there are a number of things you can
do and one of those things comes from the T.V. network

Nickelodeon.
Not directly from the T.V. network, but from someone who's
married to a bigwig at Nickelodeon.

Dan Schneider, who created "I Carly" "Drake and Josh" and
"Sam and Cat" is married to the woman who created the popular
dieting website-"Hungry Girl!"
Her name-- Lisa Lillien. And today on Dr. Oz, she unveiled another
book, a diet book "The Hungry Girl Diet" and in the book she
advises all of us to eat more mushrooms.

Add cooked mushrooms to a smaller burger (eat less red meat) for  less calories
and use Portobellos as a pizza crust, it's gluten-free and you'll save
some calories as well.

And that's the point of this post- mushrooms are one of the foods everyone
should be eating if a longer life is a goal. Why?
* They help prevent cancer/

Mushrooms help control extra estrogen in your system, which
helps block the growth of abnormal breast and ovarian cells.
* They help curb hunger pangs.
Are you always hungry? Eat more mushrooms, especially
in the morning. Mushrooms have as much fiber as beans or
popcorn, helping to fill you up quickly. Ditch the bacon and have
some mushrooms. White button will do nicely.

That's it- for now, if you want more info on how the lowly

mushrooms can help boost your lifespan, check out our
regular blog--SupermarketRxs@typepad.com.

Good Luck!

Rachael Ray's Rx For Great Skin!

                                 Eat More Burgers!

Are you bothered by cold sores? Do you get rid of
one and then another one reappears?
Well, believe it or not, it may be a deficiency. A deficiency
of iron and Zinc. And one way to get more iron and zinc is
by following Rachael Ray.

Well, not following her T.V. show, but cooking and then eating

one of her favorite foods...The Hamburger.
That's right- a trip to Jack n' The Box or Arby's
may be all the medicine you need.

Why burgers?
Lean burgers has lots of Zinc, which is vital to stop the cold sore
virus from reproducing, and maintaining good levels help cut down
on the risk of future outbreaks/ Plus, burgers have Iron, and Iron
boosts the immune system cells that block new cold-sore viruses from
taking up space on your mouth.
So, if you were feeling guilty about eating a burger or two a week,
don't be, it can keep cold-sores at bay.

And if you do decide to eat more beef (burgers and steaks) remember

these rules...
* make it grass-fed beef (it's a better quality of beef)
* Skip the white bread. White bread or poor quality bread is
yeast, and what does yeast do? It grows, into viruses,
White bread, sweets and soda, make your body the perfect
breeding grounds for futures cold-sore viruses.
* Add Garlic- love your burger or steak rare?
Well, avoid E coli by adding some powdered or real garlic
to your burger mixture or on top of your steak.
* Watch Rachael Ray, or visit her online if you need some
  burger recipes.

That's it- Another tip from the always delightful and helpful
Rachael Ray. And if you want to read more on the benefits of
burgers--head on over to our regular blog--SupermarketRxs@typepad.com.

Good Luck!

Montel Williams Rx For Woman's Health!

                                    Special Burgers For Ladies!

On today's Dr. Oz show he had on former talk show host-Montel Williams.
Mr. Williams talked about the things he's doing to combat his MS.
One thing he's doing to improve his health, may actually help women
overcome and prevent a serious health problem.
First the thing Montel is doing to improve his health: eating anywhere
from 6 to 10 cloves of garlic a day. And secondly, the health problem
that too many women suffer from: UTIs, or bladder infections.

That's right ladies, Montel's garlic Rx may help you in your battle against
UTIs. Ecoli bacteria are top triggers of bladder infections-and 1 in 5
samples of ground beef contain them. But thanks to Montel, just adding
some chopped up garlic to the burger mix reduces Ecoli danger by 90%.
And another tip: make sure to stick a thermometer into your burger,
when you see 160 degrees, it's ready to eat.
That's It- Another great tip from one of entertainments' finest.

For more on preventing and getting rid of UTIs, go to
