Hollywood's Alternative To The Meat Burger!

Eat Less Meat This Holiday Season!

If you're living in Odessa Texas, Pittsburgh Pa.  or Kansas City Missouri then you'll most

likely be having beef burgers tomorrow, but if you're living in Hollywood, it's highly likely
veggie burgers will be on the menu.

A lot of stars have given up meat for a number of reasons: too fattening, concern

about the way the animals are treated, hormones and other chemicals, and on and on.
And if you, that mom, dad or teenager in Kansas, Penn. or Texas wants to follow suit
and do like the stars, use the vegetables that have been named as the best choices
to make such burgers.
And the best vegetables are...
a) Lentils
b) Chick Peas and Black-Eyed Peas
c) Beets
d) Broccoli
e) Eggplant
f) Brown Rice
g) Beans - black, kidney and red
h) Zucchini
i) Pumpkin
j) Potatoes (sweet potatoes)
k) Mushrooms
l) Sunflower Seeds-
And lastly, if you need some ideas as to how to make a pumpkin or beet
burger, head online to OneGreenPlanet.com for some recipes.

That's it- and  make it a safe and spectacular 4th of July weekend.

Good Luck!

A Top Chef's Sweet Treat To Prevent Colds!

A Brownie Treat To Prevent Colds!
If you watched Racael Ray today, then you
know she had the very popular and very
handsome doctor on.
The doctor?

Travis Storke!
And what did they talk about?
Cold and flu prevention!
Not that unusual, but did you know that you
can prevent colds by eating the good doctors'
favorite dessert?
The dessert: Brownies!

Yes, you're reading it right, brownies to
stay cold-free. How?
By adding canned pumpkin and some
sunflower seeds to the mix.
Pumpkin contains beta carotene, which can
reduce your risk of catching a cold by 25 percent.
And the sunflower seeds, provide you with
Selenium and zinc, both of which boost immunity.

So, if you're a brownie fanatic like Dr.Travis,
Then help yourself to a healthy brownie.
Make the brownies like you normally would,
but use gluten-free brownie mix, 1 can of pumpkin
purée, 1 cup of Sunflower seeds and 1 cup
of semi sweet choc. chips, dark or white,
and walnuts (optional).
Mix together, pour into a baking pan and bake
for 15 to 20 mins. Remove from the oven, let cool
and enjoy. Eat one or two, don't go overboard.

Good Luck!

The Food Network Rx For A Healthier Holiday!

                     Choose A Safer Burger!

Oh no, here we go again, beef is being recalled. It's always something,
cars, children's toys or food. The people who sell the beef claimed
it could cause E. coli.

Some say avoid the rare and medium rare burgers and you should be
okay, but for those who are still concerned,
there's something more you can do, and that is...

Use the "Super" Herb-
What is it? Garlic.

That's right, a favorite of Rachael Ray and
Emeril Lagasee, this herb is considered a "natural antibiotic"

able to kill bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites and the feared
E.coli virus.

Just mix about 3 tsp. of garlic powder into a pound of hamburger
meat and cook the burgers thoroughly.
And if you're still not sold on the garlic only remedy, spend a little
more and buy grass-fed beef. The people who sell this type of
meat usually are farmers and mom an pop operations, and
that means they're more likely to
have more control of their
employees and their environment. (no Gov. interference)
Can't find someone who sells grass-fed beef?
Go online to google.com and type Grass-fed beef and then your state
and/or town in the search bar.
Another tip: Reread our post on using herbs, lemon juice and vinegar
to avoid getting cancer while grilling.

Hope this helps, and remember, to think about our men and women who
help protect us, this Memorial Day.

Good Luck!

Rachael Ray's Rx For Great Skin!

                                 Eat More Burgers!

Are you bothered by cold sores? Do you get rid of
one and then another one reappears?
Well, believe it or not, it may be a deficiency. A deficiency
of iron and Zinc. And one way to get more iron and zinc is
by following Rachael Ray.

Well, not following her T.V. show, but cooking and then eating

one of her favorite foods...The Hamburger.
That's right- a trip to Jack n' The Box or Arby's
may be all the medicine you need.

Why burgers?
Lean burgers has lots of Zinc, which is vital to stop the cold sore
virus from reproducing, and maintaining good levels help cut down
on the risk of future outbreaks/ Plus, burgers have Iron, and Iron
boosts the immune system cells that block new cold-sore viruses from
taking up space on your mouth.
So, if you were feeling guilty about eating a burger or two a week,
don't be, it can keep cold-sores at bay.

And if you do decide to eat more beef (burgers and steaks) remember

these rules...
* make it grass-fed beef (it's a better quality of beef)
* Skip the white bread. White bread or poor quality bread is
yeast, and what does yeast do? It grows, into viruses,
White bread, sweets and soda, make your body the perfect
breeding grounds for futures cold-sore viruses.
* Add Garlic- love your burger or steak rare?
Well, avoid E coli by adding some powdered or real garlic
to your burger mixture or on top of your steak.
* Watch Rachael Ray, or visit her online if you need some
  burger recipes.

That's it- Another tip from the always delightful and helpful
Rachael Ray. And if you want to read more on the benefits of
burgers--head on over to our regular blog--SupermarketRxs@typepad.com.

Good Luck!

Jay Leno's Rx For A Healthier Burger!

Make a Burger Like Jay Leno!

Jay Leno, host of the "Tonight Show" makes no secrets about his
love of all things beef. In fact, watch his show when Rachael Ray is on, and
you'd think it was the President that was on, instead of a chef and cookbook author.

Another thing about Mr. Leno, he hates vegetables, something he shares with fellow
comedian Whoopi Goldberg. Jay hates them so much, he says that he's not concerned
about the health benefits or the life extension benefits-he may get from eating them.
But, now back to one of Jay's favorite foods, the Burger.

If you're also a burger lover like Jay and you want one a little healthier and
moister, do to following...

Mix 1 cup of plain yogurt and 3/4 cup of bread crumbs into each lb. of meat.
And then form into 5 oz. to 6 oz. burgers. And before putting them on the grill,
insert an ice cube (Jay's secret) into the top of each burger.
The yogurt's lactic acid will tenderize the beef, while the ice cube melts and
releases a little water (for more moistness) giving you and your guests a
burger that resembles the ones made by Jay's favorite (Rachael Ray)
or Bobby Flay. Enjoy!

Good Luck!
