The Food Network Rx For A Healthier Holiday!

                     Choose A Safer Burger!

Oh no, here we go again, beef is being recalled. It's always something,
cars, children's toys or food. The people who sell the beef claimed
it could cause E. coli.

Some say avoid the rare and medium rare burgers and you should be
okay, but for those who are still concerned,
there's something more you can do, and that is...

Use the "Super" Herb-
What is it? Garlic.

That's right, a favorite of Rachael Ray and
Emeril Lagasee, this herb is considered a "natural antibiotic"

able to kill bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites and the feared
E.coli virus.

Just mix about 3 tsp. of garlic powder into a pound of hamburger
meat and cook the burgers thoroughly.
And if you're still not sold on the garlic only remedy, spend a little
more and buy grass-fed beef. The people who sell this type of
meat usually are farmers and mom an pop operations, and
that means they're more likely to
have more control of their
employees and their environment. (no Gov. interference)
Can't find someone who sells grass-fed beef?
Go online to google.com and type Grass-fed beef and then your state
and/or town in the search bar.
Another tip: Reread our post on using herbs, lemon juice and vinegar
to avoid getting cancer while grilling.

Hope this helps, and remember, to think about our men and women who
help protect us, this Memorial Day.

Good Luck!

Paula Deen's Food Rx To Prevent Colds!

                                      Eat More Sweet Potatoes!

Have you noticed Paula Deen lately?
She's dropped 35 pounds and counting... and one her
favorite foods- sweet potatoes.
Although Ms. Deen loves white potatoes, she decided on the

sweet potato to help her lose  weight.
Sweet potatoes are lower on the glycemic chart than white potatoes.

And with the flu epidemic in full swing, the sweet potato can
help you do more than lose weight.

That's right- sweet potatoes are nature's richest source of beta carotene,

a nutrient that helps keep the mucus membranes lining the nose, mouth,
throat, and lungs in good repair. And that's important for fighting off
infections, because those delicate membranes are your first defense
against invading viruses.

So, do you want to stay cold and flu-free this yr.?
Well, do like Ms. Deen and add a 1/2 or 1 cup of sweet potatoes
to you daily diet. And also important- skip the sugar.
Adding tons of sugar (as in a pie) to sweet potatoes, will only
make it harder to fend off colds. Sugar is one of the worst foods to stay
cold and flu-free.

Also look for a recipe for Sweet potato casserole at SupermarketRxs@typepad.com

Paula Deen's Rx For Dry Winter Skin!

Beat Dry Winter Skin With A Food!

If you haven't noticed Paula Deen has lost almost 40 lbs.
She's done it with some simple changes to her diet and eating
some of her favorites in moderation.

One of the foods that Ms. Deen used religiously was Crisco.
We're not sure if she still uses it or if she's found a suitable
replacement.
If you have Crisco in your pantry and have dry skin due to
the Winter weather, then use the Crisco to help eliminate
the dry skin.

Yes Crisco, known by some beauty insiders as a low cost
way to treat dry skin, The oils in Crisco contain molecules that act
as powerful shields to lock moisture in.
Fearful that'll it be too greasy? Don't be- just a small amount

is necessary, apply it after a bath or shower.
Just make sure to really apply it to the parts of the body where the
skin is really thin, the knees, elbows, top of hands, the neck and
a little around the eyes.

That's it- And remember, using Crisco this way won't cause

your waist, stomach, butt or hips to expand.

Good Luck!
