Food Network's Food Tip To Lower Disease Risk!

                                    Lower Diabetes Risk!

It hasn't been a good week for the Food Network star- Paula Deen.
With all of the criticism and the sponsors dropping her like a hot
rock. it's not looking to good for Ms. Deen right now.
One thing Ms. Deen should feel good about... her diet and the recent 40 lb.
weight loss. And one of the foods that Ms. Deen used to help her get down about
40 lbs. is now being hailed as a food that'll help prevent one of the diseases that's
running wild in the U.S.

First the food- It's the sweet potato. And Ms. Deen said she used them in place
of her beloved white potatoes.
And secondly, the disease- Diabetes! Although it's too late for Ms. Deen,
new reasearch says that foods like sweet potatoes, butternut squash, pumpkin,
carrots and cantaloupe can turn off the genes that get the diabetes ball rolling.

So, if you have a history of diabetes in your family and want to lower your

chances of ever getting it, do like Paula Deen and stock up on Sweet potatoes.
And lastly, remember you still have to get some exercise, eat more fruits and
vegetables, get 6 to 8 hrs. of sleep and watch the number of carbs you eat.
Oh, one more thing, if you're thinking- more sweet potato and pumpkin
pie, stop thinking it- extra sugar in your diet-not only increases your risk
of diabetes, but cancer, more colds, bad skin, weight gain and heart disease
as well.

Good Luck!

Paula Deen's Rx For Diabetic, Friendly and Gluten-Free Chocolate!
Paula Deen, one of America's favorite T.V. chefs took a beating (image wise)
when she announced she was a diabetic. People asked- "will she change her
style of cooking?" "Will the Food Network drop her?" on and on.

But, Ms. Deen, took it in stride and vows to be back, cooking up her usual storm.
One food that Ms. Deen can continue to cook with and not worry too much
about is chocolate.

Chocolate? We know, you're probably asking- "Are you sure, chocolate for a diabetic?"
Hold on, depending on the type, calorie amount and fat grams, it can be very good
or very bad.
But wait, there's a company that had not only Ms. Deen in mind,
but all the people out there, concerned about the amount of fat
and gluten in chocolate.

The Candy: Xan Confections Saintly Sins Assortment.
They make a delectable chocolate that's not only gluten-free,
it only has 1 gram of fat. And that's not all- they belnd chocolate
with favorites like blueberries, cherries or pineapple.
Where do find this confection of heaven? Go online to XanConfections.com.
And the price: Between $6 and $25.

So, go ahead and indulge in that choc, (but not too much indulgence) it still has calories.

Good Luck!

Paula Deen's Rx To Combat Dandruff!

Paula Deen's Fig Rx To Beat Winter Dandruff!
Paula Deen, the widly popular southern cook who hosts her own show on
the Food Network is a big fan of figs.
Figs haven't caught on here in the U.S. but in other parts
of the world they're eaten quite regularly.

Figs like most fruits can benefit your health in a number of ways like...
1) More Milk- Help pregnant women produce more milk.
2) Easier Labor- Eat throughout prenancy and make a delivery a breeze.

3) Rx For Men- Keep the prostate gland normal size.
4) Stay Dandruff-Free- Drier air, Christmas goodies and colder air
make a dandruff a mainstay for a lot of people.

But thanks to Ms. Deen, you can create a "fig jam" and  "fig oil"
(not from Ms. Deen) and keep the embarrasing flakes from
showing up on your scalp.

Figs are rich in vitamins A and B, which help you overcome a dry, itchy
scalp and bring it back to the proper pH levels. You can buy a fig-infused
product already made or you can make your own.

The product: Bain de Terra Sugar and Fig, Scalp Massage Scrub, find it at
Amazon.com, price $18. Or try Chaz Dean Fig Sweet Orange Treatment Oil,

find it at ChazDean.com. It helps with irration and controls those white flakes.
Or make your own...
The recipe:
Fig Oil-
1 fresh fig.
2 tbsps. olive, almond or coconut oil.
The directions:
Pour the oil into a bowl, place a strainer over the bowl and squeeze the juice of one
fig into the oil. Massage the oil into your scalp and wet hair. Sit back for 10 to 20
mins. and then shampoo hair as usual. Enough for one massage session.

And if you still want a little more from Ms. Deen, try her fig jam, use it on
toast, a bowl of oatmeal or a bagel.

The recipe for Fig Jam!
In a non-aluminu pot, place 1/2 lb. fresh figs (stemmed)
with 6 tbsps. sugar, some grated lemon zest and 1 1/2 tbsps. from

one lemon. Bring this to a boil over medium-high heat,
stirring until sugar is dissolved. Turn down the heat until
the mixture thickens, (about 10 mins.) Remove from heat, let cool.
Serve on the above mentioned toast and store the rest in a clean container
and refrigerate. Makes a little less than 2 cups.

That's It- Figs to remove Winter dandruff.

Good Luck!
