Morning Show's Food Rx For Good Luck!

Eat This For Good Luck In 2016!

On the "Today Show" this morning, the guest chef talked about a
certain food one should eat on Jan. 1st for more luck.

And the food the young lady mentioned is considered "soul food"
and very popular in the South.
Can you guess?
Not sure- well it's black-eyed peas.

That's right, the legume that takes a back seat to navy, kidney and garbanzo
beans are cooked and eaten on the first day of the year.
But not just this food, many Southerns eat the peas with rice, greens (turnips and
collards) the color green represents more financial luck and pork.

And for those who aren't familiar with preparing these types of foods, you may
want to copy some of the rituals that are popular in other countries, like...
a) Spain-
Actress Leah Michelle says she's part Spanish and to usher in more luck,
she and her family eat grapes (on the last day of the year at midnight).
12 grapes to be exact for the 12 months of the new year.
b) Japan-

In some Japanese countries, the people eat noodles.
What's so unusual about this food? The noodles must be long and not broken or
cut in half. Cut or break the noodles and your yr. will be broken.
Eat Soba noodles at mid-nite.
c) Poland-
In Poland and some Polish communities in the U.S. the people eat pork
and sauerkraut on the first.
Side-note- Thanks to all of the cabbage (they-the Polish women eat) is one of the
reasons why they (the women) have way lower breast cancer rates than their
American sisters.
d) Italy-
In Sicily, the people eat Lasagne. Wait, it's probably eaten yr. round, but they
consider it "good luck" if eaten on the first of Jan.

There you have it, 4 food rituals to help you increase your luck for the

upcoming New yr.
And for more good luck food traditions (or rituals) head to Google.com
and type Good Luck Foods for the New Year in the search bar.
And while you're there, type recipe for Black-Eyed Peas (or Hoppin' John) in the search bar.

Make sure the recipe contains pork, as pork is also a "good luck" food.

Take Care and Have A Happy and Prosperous 2016.

Good Luck!

4 Stars Rxs For Living Till 90!

                             Live Long and Prosper!

Reaching old age only happened to a select few years ago, but not anymore.

Today, it seems the norm.
And even in Hollywood, it's becoming quite normal,  how normal?
Four stars are 90 or over 90 and many more are fast approaching it (90).
And the 4 stars who are or over 90 are...
Cloris Leachman

Dick Van Dyke
Cecily Tyson
           +
Betty White

And if you want to make it to 90 like one of these stars, then you may want to copy
their secrets.

First up, Ms. White-
Those who know Ms. White say that she eats whatever she wants, but in small
amounts. In fact, her costars on the hit show "Hot in Cleveland" said Ms.
White's diet resembles that of a young teenager, hot dogs, chips,
a can of soda and a fruit pie. ( no veggie or tofu  burgers--Thank-You)
And her other secret: she avoids negativity, as in gossip about celebrities
or negative news, (concerning crime, the bad economy, terror threats, etc)

Next up is Cecily Tyson,
At 91, Ms. Tyson is 2 yrs. younger than Ms. White, and her secret:
she changed her diet to one of fruits and vegetables long before it was
fashionable. Like Ms. Leachman, Ms. Tyson eats only from the plant kingdom.

Now, on to Ms. Leachman,
She too, became a strict vegetarian like Ms. Tyson, starting at age 40 something,

but not just a vegetarian, a raw food enthusiast.
That's right, nothing cooked, no bell peppers stuffed with rice, or veggie stir-fries.
And something even more impressive, one of the dishes Ms. Leachman makes
may also help you make it to age 90 or more.
What dish is that?
Coleslaw.
That's right, raw cabbage served with spices and herbs, vegan cheese and
a vinaigrette.  Ms. Leachman started eating this dish back about 30 yrs. ago
and now her 40 and 50 yr. old kids make it (for themselves and their kids)
And if you're looking for that one food that can be called "a fountain of youth food"

cabbage may fit the bill.
A top nutritionist says that people who eat the most cabbage, (or foods that are in
the cabbage family--Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and kale) may
live a decade (or two) longer than their cabbage-hating friends and family.

And lastly,  for less than $2 a head, it (cabbage) will save you a ton of money
you may spend on special shakes, juices, vitamins, and other therapies.
Also important: eat more red cabbage, as it will protect your brain from
the ravages of aging, (Alzheimer's and dementia).

And last but not least, Dick Van Dyke.
Mr. Van Dyke is certainly a rarity when it comes to living a long life,
how so?

He admits to almost killing himself with tobacco and booze, bad habits that
lasted for decades.
But today, he's a beacon of energy and longevity at age 90.
His secrets: Movement.
You may (or may not) remember, but Mr. Van Dyke is an incredible

dancer and he thinks all of that movement (from the past) and something
he continues to this day- has helped him live to 90.
And his other secret: Love. He's says finding love with someone who's kind
and considerate at 80 something,  is another reason why he's made it to age 90.

So, if you hope to make it 80, 90 or even longer, follow one or more of the secrets
that have helped some of Hollywood's brightest stars achieve this incredible
milestone.

Good Luck!

Reality Star's Rx For New Year's Eve Cocktails!

Go Wheat-Free For The New Year!

You may be familiar with reality star Bethenny Frankel's business
venture called "Skinny Girl" cocktails.
Well, someone out there decided that since some alcohol contains
wheat, it's time for cocktails (like our meals) to go wheat-free.
And if you're already wheat-free or plan on going wheat-free in the
new year, here are 3 drinks that are "wheat-free".

Drink no. 1-
A Lemon-Thyme Sparkler!
Use champagne to make this drink, and since champagne is wheat-free,

you may want to make this to ring in the new year.
To make-
In a pot, heat 1/2 cup xylitol, 1/2 cup water and 5 sprigs of thyme.
Let the xylitol  dissolve, remove the thyme and let cool.
And to finish this special cocktail- combine 4 oz. champagne,
1 Tbs. lemon juice (fresh lemon juice) and a tsp. of the thyme syrup
in a cocktail glass, stir well and add a slice of lemon (for garnish).
Look for xylitol at health-food stores.

Drink no. 2-
A Blood Orange Margarita-
This is a tangy, wheat-free drink.

To make--
Combine fresh blood orange juice- 6 oz. along with 4 oz. tequila. 2 oz. of triple sec,

some stevia (to taste) and the juice of 1 fresh lime. Stir well.
Serve over ice, enough for 4 servings.
Find blood oranges at larger supermarkets.

And lastly, to help you get to sleep, try this cocktail.
Drink no. 3-
An Orange Spiced Mulled Wine-
Great as a sleep aid or really cold nights.
To make-
In a small pot over low heat, combine 1 btl. of Cabernet Sauvignon, (750 mil)
6 cloves, 1 cinnamon stick, the zest and juice of 1 orange and xylitol, 1/4 cup.
Make sure to clean peel thoroughly as it may contain pesticides.
Simmer for 30 minutes, strain and pour into 6 glasses. Drink while warm.

That's it- 3 cocktails that are great tasting and wheat-free.

Good Luck!

Cooking Star's Rx To Satisfy Salty Cravings!

                          Taming Salty Cravings!

Ah Cravings...some people have carb cravings, some have sweet cravings and
then there are those who love potato chips, nuts and pretzels, in other words--
salty cravings.

Well, if you can't go a day without potato chips or nuts, you're not alone,
food network star--Giada De Laurentiis feels your pain- as she too
also shares the same cravings for salty foods.
And unlike a lot of stars who also cook, Ms. Delaurentiis seems to have
controlled and managed her cravings and (weight) for all of these years.
So, what does she do if a salty cravings strikes?
She goes for legumes, in other words beans (or peas) but more specifically--
Chickpeas.

Yes, chickpeas- the legumes you use to make great tasting hummus, are
the same food Ms. Delaurentiis uses to shut down salty cravings.

Why chick peas?
The beans pack a 6 grams of metabolism-revving protein and 4 grams of filling
fiber per ping pong ball-size handful.

That's it- and if you want to follow in the steps of the Food Network

star-then look for crispy chickpeas called Saffron Road Crunch Chickpeas-
which can be found at supermarkets or online at Amazon.com. Price --$4 for 6 oz.
Or save your money and buy canned chickpeas, rinse them a few times,
dry them off, place them on a cookie sheet, sprinkle some olive
or coconut oil over them and bake for 30 mins. at 350 degrees.
You can add some spices- curry or turmeric powder, cayenne pepper
or grated cheese before or after baking them.

A Star's Natural Rx For A Germ-Free Home!

Let Your Christmas Make You Healthier!

In most parts of the country (not L.A. or Arizona) colder weather brings a lot
of things. Things like snow and ice, snow and ice-covered roads, certain
holidays (Christmas and Thanksgiving)  an endless supply of good and fattening
food and germs.

Yes, being indoor in heated and hot environments is ideal for all kinds of germs and viruses.
And if you're the type that loves to use store-bought cleaning products to keep

germs at bay, you may want to stop doing that.
Doing what?
Using the chemical-laden and potentially harmful cleaning products at
your local supermarket.
Why?
Thanks to new research, a steady exposure to such products leaves you
and your family members vulnerable to a host of illnesses, like...
breathing troubles, skin irritations, allergy symptoms, weight gain
and some types of cancer.

Oh yes, using Pine-sol, Lysol and Mr. Clean on a regular basis
can do irreversible damage to your health.

So, what do to counter this and keep your home germ-free?
Do like actress Jessica Alba and look for safe and natural alternatives.

And one alternative you can use can be found in your living or family room.
And what is that?
It's your Christmas tree.
A Christmas tree?
Well, the oil from your Christmas tree.

You see, long before there were hospitals, HMOs and Obamacare,
our ancestors used every part of the Pine (or Christmas) tree to get
healthy and stay healthy and the oil from the pine needles was one
of the things they (our ancestors) used.
Pine oil really does clean and disinfect and if you're serious about keeping
countertops and walls clean, then make sure this type of oil becomes
your go-to cleaning agent.
Pine oil is distilled from pine needles, twigs and cones and it's been proven to
knock-out fungi,  mold, and mildew, as well as all sorts of bacteria, like E coli
and salmonella and it (the oil) does it without releasing toxic chemicals in the air.
Again, the types of chemicals that can do major damage to your health and the
health of your loved ones.

So, if you want to become more like Jessica Alba and only use "natural"
products, now (Christmas) is a great time to start.
And if you want to clean your home for the next big holiday, (New's Year Eve
and Day) look for a product called Now Foods Pine Needle Oil-online at
IHerbs.com, a small container costs about $8.OO.
Place about 15 drops of the oil into a pail, add a few cups of warm water
and start cleaning.

And one last tip, if you really liked this post, and want to learn more
about the healing benefits of a Pine (a Christmas) tree, head on over to
Amazon.com/the kindle store and look for....see title to the right.

Download it and also learn how a that $60 or 80 dollar tree can do everything
from turn back the clock on your skin, help you beat jet lag, conquer those pesky (Holiday) cravings, boost your memory, cure indoor allergies, and help you build a "Super" immune system. Don't delay, order today.

The Hollywood Blockbuster's Rx To Prevent Cancer!

Eat This Movie Snack To Prevent Cancer!

Even though some are saying the fanaticism surrounding the blockbuster
"Star Wars" isn't good for us, you can turn your love of this movie into
something good for your health.
How is that possible, you ask?

Whether you go to see it once or a dozen times in the next few wks. just make
sure you have popcorn when you do see it.

Popcorn?
Yes, homemade popcorn with certain spices added to it can help you lower your odds
of ever developing cancer.
Spices and cancer?
Yes again, still not a believer, continue reading for more details...

* Popcorn-
contains high levels of polyphenols, antioxidants that help reduce the risk of
cancer and other diseases.
* Curry and Turmeric powder-
Both do a stellar job of shutting down pancreatic and colon cancer cells that
grow into dangerous tumors.
* Garlic Powder-
Compounds in garlic called allium- increase the activity of immune cells that
fight cancer.
* Black pepper-
In popcorn? Yes and eating more of it (especially combined with the two spices listed
above) acts like chemotherapy, in that it wipes out the cells that fuel the growth

of tumors.
* Olive oil-
Yea, you may love the taste of butter on your popcorn, but if you want to greatly
lower your odds of ever developing harmful and dangerous breast cancer tumors,
then you should eat more olive oil. Extra olive oil to be exact. O.O shuts down the
genes responsible for breast cancer.

That's it, so are you convinced? Ready to eat more spicy popcorn to lower your odds of
ever developing cancer? Good for you, and also remember, you can use these spices
in soups, salads, stir-fries and stews.
You can also add oregano, cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, as they too, also
benefit your health in a number of ways.

Good Luck and Good Viewing (of the movie)

First up, the recipe for potato pancakes.

The Double-Potato Pancake with Smoked Salmon!

1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. black pepper

The Christmas Carol That Helps You Stay Slim!

A Classic From Nat King Cole!

Some of you out there may only be familiar with Mariah Carey's
Christmas classic --"All I Want For Christmas Is You!"

but hold on, long before Mimi's hit song there were tons of great
Christmas songs, like... "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas,
"Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" "Silver Bells" and of course the
holiday favorite- "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" by the incomparable
Nat King Cole.

Yes, the father of superstar Natalie Cole had a monster hit on his hands
after releasing it and if you're one who not only enjoys the song,
but the actual chestnuts as well, then you're in luck.

What kind of luck?
According to new research, the lowly (and often ignored) chestnuts are one
of the lowest fat nuts around and that small amount of fat can do wonders
for your waistline.

Yes, that's right, nuts have gotten a lot of attention of late,
you know, walnuts to control dandruff and prevent the Winter blues,
pecans to keep skin smooth and alleviate the monthly pain a lot of

women experience (PMS) and almonds, natural aspirin, (headache relief)
and cancer fighters, but there's very little on chestnuts.
Until now, and research says that chestnuts contain vitamin C,
a vitamin that helps break down fat, especially fat that tries to settle around
your middle and speeds up your metabolism.

So,  if you plan on indulging in nuts this holiday season, remember the song by
Nat King Cole and (the actual nuts) chestnuts.

And lastly, if you aren't sure how to roast chestnuts, head on over to
Google.com and type how to roast chestnuts in the search bar.

but do you know that a drink popular in some parts of France and  a favorite

And what drink is that, you ask?
Champagne.

Yes, the beverage that only a small percentage of the people can afford

How?

that helps relax blood vessels.

Champagne also reduces inflammation and protects against plaque, top causes

A Singer's Green Rx For A Longer Life!

A Food Secret From "Old Blue Eyes"

If you're a fan of "the great one" or "Old Blue Eyes" then you probably know,

he would've turned 100 (in a few days).
And although he (Frank Sinatra) only made it to age 85, it was an incredible 8 and 1/2
decades, and if you want to live that long or even longer, you may want to copy one
of his secrets.

What secret is that?
No, it's not staying up till all hrs. of the night, hanging with your own "Rat Pack"
No, it's not drinking 2 or more alcoholic drinks a day. (one a day is recommended)
No, it's not getting married (or involved) with many women (or men)
So what is it?
Eat (or drink) parsley.

That's right, it was reported that Mr. Sinatra had a number of strange
eating habits, and one of his favorite treats- filling a bowl with fresh parsley-
(make sure to
clean it first) add a clove of chopped up garlic, some salt and pepper,
and olive oil.

Mr. Sinatra had a member of staff make this before his show started,
and refrigerate it.
And after the show was over, he would eat his bowl of parsley salad
like it was a rib-eye steak.
And since a number of people are interested in longevity these days,
a top nutritionist says if longevity is something you want, parsley
is one of the top foods that'll help you achieve it (longevity).

Our tip- add some apple cider vinegar and turmeric to your salad
and you'll really increase your odds of making it to 100 (or more).

So, there you have it, a gift from one of the greatest entertainers
who ever lived.
And if you really want to celebrate Mr. Sinatra's 100th birthday,
go to Youtube.com, type Frank Sinatra in the search bar, listen to a

song or two and have a parsley salad.

And lastly, if you want more info on how parsley can increase lifespan,

Make it To 100, in the search bar, download it and learn how parsley and this

The Kitchen Cure For Dry Winter Skin!

                            A Glowing Complexion!

The Winter months take a toll on a lot of things...your waistline, your hair

and your skin. And if you're spending a lot of time indoors, with all
of that dry air and heat, make sure you take care of your skin.
How?

By heading to the kitchen  and getting some cornmeal, honey, milk
and cinnamon.

Mix together a Tbs. of cornmeal, a tsp. of honey, a 1/4 tsp. of cinnamon
and a Tbs. (or 2 ) of milk.
Apply this to your slightly damp face using small circular movements.

Yes, it's an exfoliant, and when you gently scrub your face, you're getting
rid of the dry skin cells that result from the cold air and plethora of
Holiday goodies.
After scrubbing your face, splash some warm water on your face
and pat it (your face) dry.

That's it- an inexpensive exfoliant for those of you who are on a budget.
And one last tip: make sure to do this (the exfoliating) on your day
off from work (or school) as some redness may occur.

And if you really want some more great tips on how to avoid
a lot of the beauty problems (hat hair,  dry feet, blotchy skin, etc.)
associated with Winter, head on over to Amazon.com/the kindle store

The Sweet Treat For Beautiful Hair!

                                      A Beverage For Your Hair!

If you're a fan of health news, then you're probably aware of the news surrounding

Coca Cola.
What type of news?
It (the soda) can cause weight gain, acne, heart trouble, hearing  and tooth loss,

brittle bones, etc.

But hold on, something you eat that may harm your health,
can be worn (as a facial or hair mask) and do great things for your looks.
Things like mayonnaise, (a mayo face mask) egg yolks, (yolks to
keep skin tight and youthful) lard and vegetable oil, (yes, that lard, can be used as
a moisturizer) and cocoa cola for your hair.

Yes, a coca cola hair rinse is all the rage, (go online for proof)
and some who have used it claim...it's a little messy, but it has given their
hair tons of volume and natural waves, and others have said it makes their
hair look shiny, and even leaves it smelling great.

So, how does it (coca cola) work its magic?
Coca Cola has phosphoric acid and this type of acid tightens the hair cuticle
to create shinier hair, while the caffeine in it helps fatten up the strands at
the roots.

That's it- so are you game? If so, purchase some coca cola, and after washing
your hair, use some coke as a rinse. (preferably while standing in the shower).
And for more info, head to Google.com and type Coca Cola hair rinse in the
search bar.

T.V. Show's Rx For Youthful Skin!

The Doctor's Rx For Youthful Skin!

If you're a fan of the T.V. show -"The Doctors" then give yourself a pat on the back.
Why?
It shows you're interested in your health and well-being.
And if you caught this morning's show- they (The Doctors) did an interesting

segment on beauty remedies from around the World.
More specifically: Korea.

Yes, Chinese and Japanese women get all of the attention when it comes
to youthful skin and looks, but the women of Korea should also
be included in this discussion.

And if you want youthful skin (hands, face and neck) like the women of
Korea, head to the supermarket (or your own pantry) and pick up some rice.
That's right, a researcher who studied Asian women and their work habits

noticed something unusual about Asian women who worked in the rice fields,
What did the researcher notice?
Although the women looked their age in the face, their hands looked
like the hands of teenagers.
How was this possible?

Rice water.

Oh, rice is getting a bad rap here in the U.S. (especially white rice)
you know, it's too high calorie, it starchy, it contains gluten (rice is actually

gluten-free) and on and on.
But if you don't want to eat it, that's fine, just wear it.

Wear it, how?
As in pouring a cup or two of rice into a bowl, and then pouring a cup or
two of water over the rice and leaving it alone for a day or two.
After that, take the water and place it in a container, or spray bottle
as for  the rice, cook it or discard it.
Now, use the water as you would a moisturizer.
Or pour a cup into your bathwater, or if you're beginning to see brown (age) spots,
rub some of the water on them.

That's your beauty tip for today, rice water for youthful hands, faces and necks.
