Ellen's Sweet Rx For A Great Mardi Gras!

                            A Sweet Treat From Ellen! 

Ellen Degeneres loves to talk about her hometown-New Orleans.
And if you like to party-then you may want to head to New Orleans
and take part in one of the biggest parties of the year.

The party: Mardi Gras!
That's right- it's almost that time of yr. again, and if you can't make it 

to New Orleans, you can still enjoy one of the most popular sweet treats
served at Mardi Gras.
What's the sweet treat? Pralines!

Buttery and sugary, pralines will be served to thousands of people
during the next 3 weeks, and if you can't make it to the big party,
you can make your own.

Listed below is a recipe for the sweet treat.
Pour 1 can sugar, 3 tbs. dark corn syrup, 1 cup evaporated milk and
3 tbs. butter into a nonstick pan. Stir over medium heat until bubbly
and keep stirring until mixture is soft and holds its shape. Remove 

from heat, allow it to cool for 15 mins. then add 1 & 1/2 cups of pecan
halves and a tiny bit of vanilla extract. Stir with a wooden spoon for
a couple minutes or until it thickens. And lastly, drop by spoonfuls
onto a baking sheet that has some waxed paper on it, let the pralines
cool completely and then peel off and eat your homemade sweet treats.

Although these treats are made with butter and sugar, you may want
to practice moderation. And if you're swearing off sweets as a New Year's
resolution, skip this article and prepare a bowl of fresh or frozen fruit.

Kelly Ripa's Exercise Rx To Stop Aging!

Pilates was all the rage about 5 to 7 yrs. ago, but it's not as popular
as it was once, and that's too bad. But not if Kelly Ripa has anything
to do with it, she's a big proponent of Pilates, and it must be working-
she'll be 43 in Oct.
And if you are worried about aging and want to do something
about it like Ms. Ripa, try these 3 moves and turn back your own clock. 

The 3 moves are actually more like stretches and they strengthen
your muscles and stimulate the body to produce growth hormones
that help reverse the aging process.
Exercise no. 1-
The Stretch That Turns Back The Clock-
Sitting with knees bent, left foot touching right thigh and right foot
bent behind you, stretch with your right arm overhead and lean to your
left, keeping hips stationary. Hold for a count of 10, then rise to center and
and repeat on the other side. Start with 1 set and then work your way up
to 3 sets in the coming wks.

Exercise no. 2-
Twist The Years Away-
Sitting with legs stretched apart, raise your arms out to your sides at
shoulder-level. Moving from your waist, twist your body to your right,
bringing your left arm to touch your right foot. Hold for a count of 10, return
to center, then twist to your left and repeat. Start with 1 set and work up to
3 sets in the coming weeks.

Exercise no. 3-
A Bridge To Youthfulness-
Lying on your back with knees bent, feet flat and arms at your side,
exhale and tense your abs as you lift your hips off the floor.
Hold for a count of 10, inhale and lower your body down.
And like the other exercises- start with 1 set.
Another benefit of this exercise- it works like Viagra-for both men and
women, and with Valentine's day coming up- every little thing will help.

Like regular women, pregnant celebrities also have cravings.
And if you're thinking the cravings are for salmon and salad
you'd be wrong. Listed below are some of the cravings of
some of your favorite celebrities. 

1) Pink-
The energetic, in your face, tell it like it is singer
wanted Sour patch kids and sour skittles.
2) Beyonce and Natalie Portman-
Surprisingly, they wanted the same thing...Ketchup.
And what's even funnier- Beyonce ate a lot of pickles
before being pregnant and Natalie Portman who rarely
ate pickles, wanted them along with the ketchup while pregnant.
3) Jenna Bush Hager-
George W. Bush's little girl and Today show correspondent,
wanted Dim Sum. Chinese food that comes in small bite-sized
portions and is usually steamed.
4) Nicole Richie-
Like Jenna Bush, Ms. Richie wanted something Asian,
wasabi to be exact. It's Japanese horseradish.
She didn't say what foods she wanted the wasabi on.
5) Jessica Simpson-
Wanted a lot of things and from a past post, we wrote about why giving 

in to all of your cravings can put you and your baby at risk.
Risk for high blood pressure, diabetes, mood swings and future behavorial 

problems for your kids. Anyway, her main cravings were for Pop Tarts and
Mac and Cheese.
6) Jessica Alba-
Although she eats well, Ms. Alba wanted French ham and cheese sandwiches.
We're not sure if the bread is French or the ham and cheese is. 

7) Drew Barrymore-
Surprisingly, Ms. Barrymore ate poorly a few yrs. ago and one of her favorite
foods- Kraft Mac and Cheese. As she became older and wiser-she cleaned up
her diet. But then when she became pregnant, her desire for Kraft Mac and Cheese
came back...with a vegenance.
8) Mariah Carey-
She takes a lot of criticism for her fluctuating weight, and when she became
pregnant, she decided to give in to those cravings.
What were they? Candied apples and Cherry Slurpees.
9) Katie Holmes-
What could the disciplined Ms. Holmes crave?
Cupcakes! From the bakery Sprinkles and as we said earlier,
be careful of the foods you indulge in, it's now reported-that Suri
has a serious sweet tooth. And for what food? If you said cupcakes,
give yourself a pat on the back.
10) Adriana Lima-
The Victoria Secret model had a craving that scared her, what was it?
For Beer. Although she didn't give in, it still scared her. plus she hates the taste.
11) Alison Hanigan-
The star of "How I Met Your Mother" is a vegetarian, and guess what she craved? 

That's right- Big, juicy burgers. We're not sure if she gave in or if she fought it.

The number of times the toilet is flushed and then sprays all over the place.

d) Hotels-
You have to travel, but beware. Yes, the sheets and bathroom pose a problem, 

but also be careful before using the light switches, the T.V. remote and
the keys or key pads. Bring some disinfecting wipes and do your own cleaning.
e) Office Kitchen-
Yes, the kitchen at home can cause problems, but watch the kitchen at
work. Watch the surfaces, the handles (refrigerator, microwave  and doors).

Ellen who has a birthday coming up- admitted that she too, has
some body flaws. Ellen also knew that the skin on one's neck, 

elbows, hands and around the eyes is very thin, therefore aging more 
quickly.
If you are a decade or two younger than Ellen and Courtney and want to keep 

your skin looking it's best, eat some of the foods that'll keep your skin looking
10 to 15 yrs younger.

The Foods For Youthful Skin:
a) Go Nuts-
Some walnuts and almonds each day will give your skin a healthy
glow. Nuts contain essential fatty acids that keep skin cells fluid

and flexible.
b) Seafood-
A few salmon, trout or halibut dinners will give you smoother
and softer skin. Credit goes to the omega-3 fatty acids that hydrate
skin and flakes from blocking pores.
c) Soy Milk-
Drinking a cup of soy milk a day will help repair problem skin.
Soy milk has estrogen and it (estrogen) stimulates connective
tissue and regenerates your skin.
Important tip: Soy isn't for everyone, if it causes problems

Do you drink an adequate amount of water each day? 
Well, you don't have to drink 10 glasses of water each day,

cucumber and cantaloupe. Keeping skin from drying out is very important,
so make sure to eat the above fruits and drink some water each day.
e) More Oil-

then you already know about the importance of oils.
Olive, walnut and avocado oils help keep skin moist, smooth
and plumped up. Use these oils to saute, stir-fry, in salads
and pestos and use it topically. Apply some to your body,
face, neck, hands, elbows and knees after a shower or bath.
f) Kiwi Please- 

Often overlooked as a fruit that can help keep smooth and blemish-free. 
One researcher says that 2 kiwis a day can help remove age spots
and moisturize skin from the inside out.
How powerful is Kiwi? A woman (a school teacher) wanted something
natural to help her prevent the number of colds she was bound to get
in the new school yr. 

A relative suggested Kiwi, she ate 2 a day, starting in Aug. and by
the end of Summer, noticed a few changes. The changes:
the undereye circles under her eyes disappeared and she didn't
have to cake her makeup on like she usually did. So, in addition
to helping her stay cold-free, she had a smoother and more youthful
