NBC's Rx For Healthy Knees!

Keep Your Knees In Tip-Top Shape!

If you're a fan of NBC's nightly news show and its anchor Brian Williams,
then you're aware of his absence.
Why the absence? He's having knee replacement surgery on his right knee.

Mr. Williams said " after 35 yrs. of pain it was time for the surgery."
If you're knees are healthy, and you want to them to stay that way-
do the following...
a) Take This-
Vitamin D. If you don't get enough vitamin D, you can expect some knee
pain, why? D boosts absorption of bone-strengthening calcium.
Aim for 2,000 IUs a day. And yes, getting some Sun (without sunscreen)
also counts.
b) Lose Some Weight-
This is great advice for lowering blood pressure, reducing heart disease risk
and now- taking some of the pressure off of your knees. Losing just 10% to 15%
of your weight can slow the progression of future knee pain.
c) Lose Your Shoes-
Depending on where you live, going barefoot improves hip-knee-ankle alignment

it helps reduce the stress on your knees.
d) Eat These Types of Nuts-
What type? Brazil nuts. Rich in selenium,  they help you lower your risk of
knee pain by 45%.
Important tip: Eat no more than 3 Brazil nuts a day. Any more than that and
you risk future health problems.
e) Stop This Habit-
It's smoking and if you're still doing it, (Miley Cyrus) perhaps less knee
pain may get you to finally stop. Smoking increases cartilage loss in the knee
joint considerably.
f) Exercise Wisely-
If you're knees are in good shape, do exercises that'll benefit your knees.

Exercises like walking and light weightlifting (squats and knee bends).
And you also stop stretching so much, why? Vigorous stretching before
exercise doesn't prevent knee injuries. In the future, warm up by walking
for a few minutes and then you can exercise.
g) Go Italian-
Or Greek. Just add more olive oil to your diet. Extra-virgin olive oil
protects cartilage surrounding the knee. The oil contains a natural
anti-inflammatory that stops immune cells from attacking knee cartilage.
Also beneficial, adding spices to your soups, salad dressings, eggs and
meat dishes.
Ginger, turmeric, cayenne pepper, marjoram, parsley, cilantro and
cumin shut down inflammation that may result in pain.

That's it- some simple tips to make sure you never end up like Brian
Williams.

Good Luck!
